A Starbase will also need to have a Colossal Assembly Yard in order to be able to construct one. The Colossal Assembly Yard is required for both the Colossus and the Juggernaut. A huge space station acting as an artificial world, Habitats are a solid solution if your empire’s territory has very few habitable planets to colonize. Although cheap to build and faster to colonize, the stations have fewer districts to build than planets and only a 70% habitability for all alien species.
A habitat in Stellaris is a megastructure in the game built when your species wants to thrive on a surface outside of a traditional planet. There are three types of habitats, and they each require quite a bit of resources for you to construct them. You need Zero Point Power, Battleships and Citadels, but as Mega-engineering is Tier 5, you also need six T4 engineering techs in total (i.e. four in addition to Battleships and Citadels). Sadly the wiki is not up to date when it comes to tiers.
These are similar to habitats but can be much bigger. A single segment of a ring world is over twice as big as a full habitat, but they top paw dog harness also cost much more to build. Their yield is higher too, but whether they’re worth it depends on your playing style and endgame goal.
Note how I declared the Tier for each technology. I’m not sure people know this, but Tech Tier means a lot. You can only draw a tech from any specific tier when you have researched six technologies in that field from the tier below that.

Among all the megastructures, the Assembly is one of the cheapest and quickest to build. However, if your empire has little care for diplomacy or friendly relations with other empires, this would place it at a low priority to build. … You build them overlooking planets, and they have a 70% base habitability rating for all species, so it should work for any species in the galaxy. To build the Dyson Sphere megastructure in Stellaris, you’ll need the Utopia DLC. You’ll also need the Galactic Wonders Ascension perk and have previously built a multi-stage megastructure. You’ll needStellaris‘ Federations DLC to build the Interstellar Assembly megastructure.
Coupled with high building costs, this one generally isn’t worthwhile. Building these galactic wonders is far from easy. Therefore, it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you devote your entire civilization’s resources to building a dud. Habitats can be built by a construction ship around any regular Planet without an anomaly. Unlike other megastructures, habitats do not require a construction site and are finished in one go by the construction ship.
As with most Paradox Interactive grand strategy games, the ability to declare war is bound to decrees known as Casus Belli. By following certain technology paths , you can unlock techs that expand your administrative capacity. At about the halfway point of your game, you’ll be able to repeatedly research some of these techs to keep raising the cap. I personally use the Improved megastructures mod which makes the Science Nexus and the Dyson sphere insane. The mod also changes build time for the ring world and sensor array but I’m not sure by how much.
